Leisa and Dave Port have owned German Shepherd Dogs for their entire life together.
Their first German Shepherds were long coated dogs obtained from a local show
breeder. Upon the passing of their second dog, they decided to invest in a quality
German Shepherd Dog from working lines. They turned to Randy Tyson of
Witmer-Tyson Imports, and obtained Britta vom Haus Tyson in 2003.

Randy encouraged Dave to  train Britta in the sport of Schutzhund. It soon became
apparent that Britta excelled in the tracking phase. Britta was the first dog Dave trained
in Schutzhund; she was Dave's labor of love through thick and thin.  On January 22nd,
2006, Britta and Dave worked together to earn Britta her Schutzhund I title, which she
received on the first attempt! She earned her SchH II title on January 21st, 2007. The
highlight of her career came on May 13th, 2007. She earned her Schutzhund III title that
day from SV Judge Herr Wolfgang Henke, President of the WUSV (World Union of
"Shaeferhunde Verein" [Shepherd Societies], the governing body of all German
Shepherd Clubs worldwide...no pressure!). She scored 99-90-88 for a total of 277
points. Dave decided to retire Britta from Schutzhund, and allow her to concentrate on
the tracking that she loves.  And Dave had a new training project to occupy his "free
time..."

While viewing the Witmer-Tyson Imports web site one day in 2004, Dave noticed a
planned breeding to Wickie von Flutgraben by Falk von den Wolfen. Falk is a high
scoring, top producing stud in Germany; Wickie has had many high scores in
Schutzhund trials, with a 100-96-100 Schutzhund III score. Dave checked the pedigrees
of Britta and these two dogs, and mentioned to Leisa that they had no dogs in common
for four generations, and that a breeding to Britta by a male of the litter would be
interesting to see. Dave then went back to his web surfing; little did he know that Leisa
would bring home Hunther vom Haus Tyson as a very special birthday present in 2004!

Hunther turned out to be quite a challenge.  A series of unfortunate events led to
Hunther having problems getting along with other dogs, outside of the ones he lives
with. An attack by another dog left him wary of strange dogs that surprise him. This
turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Dave sought the services of a behavior
consultant, and found Lisa Clifton-Bumpass. Lisa's invaluable knowledge allowed Dave
to learn to manage Hunther's environment, and helped Hunther learn to tolerate other
dogs. Dave became interested in the science of dog behavior, and how to practically
apply that knowledge to the art of dog training. With time and hard work, Hunther
earned his BH title on May 12th 2007. Dave and Hunther then turned around and
earned Hunther's Schutzhund I title on the same Sunday that Britta earned her
Schutzhund III!  (From the president of the WUSV! Again...no pressure!) Hunther scored
94-81-96V on his Schutzhund I test. It has become apparent that he has real
competition potential, especially in light of the fact that a half-brother (Falco vom
Wolfsblick) won the 2007 Bundesiegerprufung (German National Schutzhund Trials).

Dave has been a member of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America (USA) since
2004, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and the American Kennel Club
(AKC). Dave is currently teaching tracking to pet dog owners, as well as a
competition-based tracking program for beginning Schutzhund handlers. Dave is
studying to pass the Certified Professional Dog Trainer exam.

" I love German Shepherds because of their loyalty to people, their trainability, and the
look of the dogs. I've learned to look down if I walk out of a room with a closed door -
one of my German Shepherds will be lying there, waiting for me. Once you figure out
exactly what each German Shepherd will work for, be it a toy or a treat, they can be
trained to do anything they're physically capable of. That's why GSD's are used by the
police, the military, search and rescue, you name it. And as for the look - strangers will
stop me on the street to tell me what beautiful dogs I have! I know Randy is proud of her
dogs, and I intend to carry on her tradition of breeding good looking, hard working,
highly intelligent dogs that are healthy and happy. I have signed the
Breeder's Code Of
Ethics as a way of demonstrating my commitment to the German Shepherd Dog. They
are the light of my life, and I want other people to enjoy them as much as I do."
